This policy covers the Notchify Download Details browser extension and its local connection to a compatible Notchify for Windows application.
Data used
The extension uses browser download metadata to show progress in Notchify: the download ID, filename and full local file path, received bytes, total bytes when known, sampled download rate, and active, paused, interrupted or completed state. A local file path may contain a Windows account name or other personal information chosen by the user.
The browser downloads API can return additional properties. The extension selects only the fields listed above for its messages. It does not send download URLs or referrers to Notchify, and it does not read browsing history, cookies, passwords or web page content. It does not read the contents of downloaded files.
Local connection and pairing
Pairing uses a temporary eight-digit code displayed in Notchify. The code expires after five minutes. A successful pairing creates a random client ID and a token used to authenticate subsequent local messages. These are stored in extension-local browser storage; they are not synchronized through Chrome storage sync. The Windows app stores its token records encrypted with Windows DPAPI for the current user.
The extension sends metadata only to Notchify on the same computer, over a loopback connection at 127.0.0.1:49387. This connection is not a connection to our website or a remote publisher server. We do not receive the download metadata or pairing tokens.
If you copy a pairing code, it may be retained in Windows or Notchify clipboard history according to your local clipboard settings.
Purpose and sharing
Data is used only to display and maintain the download progress feature requested by the user. The extension does not include advertising, analytics, trackers, remote code or automatic telemetry. We do not sell download metadata or transfer it to advertising, credit or data-broker services.
Notchify Download Details uses information obtained through Chrome APIs only for the disclosed download integration and follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Storage and deletion
Progress samples are held in memory. Limited recent-download metadata may remain in the extension or the running Windows app during a session; this extension does not create a persistent download-history database. The browser's own download history is managed by the browser independently of this extension.
Pairing identifiers and tokens remain until disconnected, cleared or uninstalled. Disconnect in the extension to remove its local token. In Notchify, right-click the Downloads panel and choose Disconnect to remove app-side pairing records and stop the local connection. You may also remove extension data through your browser. Removing the extension does not delete downloaded files or the browser's own download history.
Permissions
Downloads: obtain the metadata required for progress reporting.
Storage: remember the local pairing credentials.
Alarms: recover the local connection after worker, browser or app restarts.
Access to http://127.0.0.1:49387/*: communicate with the paired application on this computer.
Companion application and stores
The Windows application is distributed separately through Microsoft Store. Google and Microsoft operate their own stores, accounts, licensing and update services under their own privacy policies. This policy describes the extension's own behavior; other Notchify features are covered by the Windows application's privacy policy.
Updates and contact
Material changes to these practices will be reflected in an updated policy and, where required, additional disclosure or consent. Questions may be sent to notchify@kingpindev.com.
